If you’re reading this, welcome to HOOPTY—my little corner of the internet where I get to talk about cars, transportation, and everything in between, exactly as I see them. Whether it’s the beauty of a well-engineered machine, the quirks of an old beater, or the latest industry trends, this is where I’ll share my experiences, insights, and opinions.
Who Am I?
I’m Greg, a lifelong car enthusiast with a background in insurance, auto body & mechanical repair, and sleuthing. My journey into cars started young—my first ride was a 1984 Porsche 944 Turbo in Guards Red, a car I bought by working double shifts at an arcade and kept running by wrenching on it with my father, an aircraft mechanic. That hands-on experience shaped my love for vehicles, from the practical to the impractical, and everything that makes them tick.
Over the years, I’ve worked extensively in the insurance industry, specializing in auto physical damage. I’ve seen what happens when cars meet the unexpected—collisions, repairs, and all the intricacies that come with keeping vehicles on the road. Through my work, I’ve developed a deep understanding of how cars are valued, repaired, and sometimes even misunderstood by the industry itself.
